I've been thinking for a while now that negative reaction stamps in community replies, like "๐Ÿ‘Ž๏ธ" or "๐Ÿ˜•," are simply unnecessary. Humans are petty creatures, so if they're available, people will easily press them just for the sake of casually denying others. While being able to express disagreement quickly might be an advantage, "๐Ÿ‘Ž๏ธ" feels like too heavy of an expression for that purpose, and if you want to convey a well-reasoned opposition, I think it's healthier to write it out properly in a message rather than using a vague stamp. Wouldn't you dislike it if posts also had a โ™ก and ๐Ÿ’” button? That's what I think. Conversely, if you believe negative stamps are necessary, I'm genuinely curious to hear why.

When writing critical opinions in text, they tend to come across as sharp and easily escalate into flame wars or arguments. With stamps, you can simply and mildly convey only the feeling of "dissatisfaction or disagreement." An environment where only positive reactions (such as likes) are allowed makes it easier for peer pressure (echo chamber effects) to arise. Having negative stamps helps maintain healthy diversity and a balance of real emotions.

In the first place, casually pressing ๐Ÿ‘Ž or ๐Ÿ˜• isn't exactly a great thing, but there seem to be people using them as a good way to convey emotions. I'd appreciate it if you could keep in mind pressing ๐Ÿ‘Ž without being too provocative.

I see. That does seem to have some merit.
But if pressing it casually is inherently not a good thing, then having it (or not) in a way that can't be pressed casually would be better, and if you're going to press it not casually, then I feel it's better to use proper words rather than relying on something vague like ๐Ÿ‘Ž๏ธ. After all, it's a community. That's what I thought.

Now I noticedโ€”I was about to say that the โ†‘โ†“ next to this rice field isn't necessary, but when I tried pressing it, I couldn't cancel it! There's only plus or red minus, no zero. I realized that once you press it, you can't set it back to zero.

Wasn't it that YouTube also became unable to properly evaluate with the counter-like clicking of likes, and that's why they stopped showing the numbers for the downvote button? If they made it so you can still press it but it's not displayed... then wouldn't it be better to not have it in the first place?

I think it would be nice if both "like" and "not like" were posted as a reply with your name when you click. Then people would take responsibility for their posts. I think the style of "the opposite of like is indifference" is a useful way of thinking depending on the content.

It seems like YouTube's dislike count has a stronger meaning as data for YouTube's recommendations and the like. So perhaps they decided there was no need to display the number.

It might also be fine to have something like what's common in recent chat tools, where you can see who sent a stamp by long-pressing it.
