Could it be that you can set the ratio, but it's not being displayed, and the auto-detection is messing up or something?

When I open a video, it displays an aspect ratio that wasn't set, so it feels like the thumbnail is also being adjusted to match it. Recently, the playback player seems to have changed, and audio being muted by default has been happening a lot, so I suspect this might be related as well.
