Gallery and portrait images, landscape images

This might be a bit of a hacky topic, but when works are displayed in a list in the gallery, the image width is fixed, so vertically long images appear larger on the surface. Conversely, horizontally long images are displayed quite compactly. Given that nowadays viewers' screens are often vertical (smartphones), it makes sense in that regard, but I can't help thinking—isn't there something that can be done about horizontally long images being so inconspicuous? Because of that, my motivation to create horizontally long images has decreased a bit. I wish there were some methodology to solve this—does something like that exist?

I was thinking the same thing. Wide images don't stand out, do they? Even if they don't fit entirely, I wish they would at least be displayed in a 1:1 aspect ratio in the gallery. If they were 1:1, parts of people etc. would get cut off, so wouldn't that make you want to see the full wide version instead?

That's true💡Currently, landscape images end up smaller than 1:1, right? The method you mentioned seems like a good compromise too👍️

That's also a good idea, but I feel it's a bit inconvenient that you can't see the whole thing without tapping. I don't really mind the shape of the image 🤔

@まれん2

Well, basically it's a contradictory trade-off — you look at the pros and cons, and after that it just comes down to personal preference, right? 👌

This shows this pretty well I think:
9:16 dominates,
1:1 well presented,
16:9 squeezed in barely recognisable.

That's it!

This display is very easy to understand as an example. However, if everything is made into squares, the 7:3 position, which is generally considered the point of focus, might end up too far toward the edge in thumbnails.

The video is landscape for some reason. A video made at a 2:3 aspect ratio is displaying in landscape. 🤔?🕊️

I also thought about it myself and asked AI, and selected two ideas for creating small but eye-catching pictures.
①Create a picture with a composition close to the object
②Incorporate contrasting or complementary colors on the left and right sides of the picture
For example, something like this↓

I'm still thinking about how to turn the wide-format image handicap to my advantage~.
For example, creating something like an optical illusion where what you see differs when viewed from far away versus up close 🤔💫
